Jay Contway was a native Montanan, who spent a lifetime creating western sculpture capturing the life he knew and loved. Contway spent time on the rodeo circuit, and his knowledge and respect for the working cowboy shows clearly in his art.
The Calgary Stampede gave Contway worldwide recognition by awarding a Contway bronze as part of their trophy program for a full 27 years. This translates into over 160 pieces of art that Jay has provided for the Stampede. Contway also displayed his art at the National Finals Rodeo Cowboy Christmas in Las Vegas for over 30 years and gathered a large following.
Appreciation for the history, his own native ancestry and the people and animals of the West is clearly illustrated in his sculpture.
